Alan Hirchenson

Way back in the 70's and from then on I had a friend, Alan Hirchenson.  He was a great guy and character.  I knew him first from the gym and power lifting and became friends with him and he supported my lifting after he stopped.  He was a pretty good lifter, but was funny about Alan, he always bragged so hard.  I can remember him walking into a gym and saying in his huge loud voice he was too strong for that gym.  I can remember him coming to a meet talking about benching 600 and he did not even get out of the 4's.  But the fact was, he was a pretty good lifter.  He did do a legit 550 bench at 220 when shirts were shirts.  I mean that is pretty strong.

Alan was a very kind person to his friends, he was so giving.  Now he was hard to be around sometimes with his bragart personality.  But he was just so generous to you.  He loved you in his way.  Alan was very good at working and he turned a chiropractic office into a dynasty.  The guy had it all.  Just tons of money, all the cars, all the trappings of the life.  Then Alan tried Nubain.  It got him.  He lost the business, house, money, kids, and a lot of friends.  He over dosed a few times.  Nobody could reach him.  He pushed everyone away.  The guy was a classic victim of his own excess.  Well Alan died Friday.  That crap got him.  He was not even 50 years old.  Rest in peace Alan.  I will miss you and have for years.  Your brother in steel,

Myles

This was a sad end to a man's life. I regret not having been there Monday for his memorial service. He was a very kind hearted man who gave me the push to the National stage in Powerlifting. Without his confidence in my abilities I would never have been Champion those years. I have missed Al for many years now and I like you, am sad to hear of his passing. I pray for him and his loved ones to cope.
